I am so thankful…

…for my once-a-year chocolate pecan pie…for the Pilgrims and the Indians and all they endured before that first Thanksgiving Day…for my “WB” and his faithfulness to me…for the sensitivity of my William, the insight of my Chelsey, the mercy of my Danny, the joy of my Joey, and the perfection of my Ben…for skipping through meadows of wildflowers in warm sunshine…for ninety-minute massages…for the fireplace in a Georgia cabin and the leaves outside on an overcast October day.

I’m thankful for every tear I’ve shed because they’ve shaped who I’ve become. I’m thankful God doesn’t care nearly as much about changing my circumstance as He does transforming my heart. I am so thankful He’s always there because sometimes friends and family aren’t.

I am thankful for the unconditional love and affection of my puppies…for the green bean casserole, stuffing, DARK turkey meat and gravy all mixed together…that my knee doesn’t hurt anymore and my leg is getting stronger (Praise God!)…for my dream of coasting through white powder and a hot tub in the snow…for pedicures, cozy blankets, and days entirely devoted to writing.

I’m very thankful for Connie, Patricia, Adam, and Jon, and countless others who are flowers in the garden of my life…I’m thankful for sitting under a palm tree in the late afternoon with a great book, a slight breeze, the sound of crashing waves, and the sight of a magnificent sunset before me…for being a part of something bigger, vastly bigger than myself…for the privilege and blessing of touching another with God’s love.

I’m thankful for whatever is to come…that I can trust God has the very best plan in store for my life…that He knows my hopes and dreams and will provide in ways that fulfill His purposes for me. I’m thankful that His name and renown have become the desire of my heart, because that wasn’t always so. I am thankful that as a muscle has to tear before it can mend, grow, and become stronger, God enables my heart and mind to experience the same renewal from brokenness.

I am thankful for this day the Lord has made! I’m thankful for little birds, yellow butterflies, and pigs sloshing in the mud. I’m thankful for Charlotte’s Web and Where the Red Fern Grows. I am thankful for the secret little things shared only between me and God. I’m thankful for really cool fences on ranches that need repairing…for views of mountains that take my breath away…for the hope of living my fantasies.

I am thankful for you reading this…that God has brought you to this website He created for His glory. I’m thankful for what He’s done and what He’s gonna do, in my life and in yours. I am thankful God puts songs in my mind and on my heart to make His presence known. Lately, I’m especially thankful for Francesca Battistelli and her song “Hundred More Years.” I’m thankful for an occasional Pop-Tart or Butterfinger. Or York Peppermint Patty. And for the wonderful color pink.

I am thankful for the night of October 20, 2007, and my trainers who got me there. I’m thankful for fresh tulips and laughing with someone I love. I’m thankful I asked Jim Geisz to my company Christmas party eighteen years ago and for the life he’s given me. I am thankful my life, my marriage, and my children are not perfect because if they were, I wouldn’t need to depend on God.

More than anything, on this Thanksgiving Day 2011, I am so thankful to be basking in the Son.
