The Prayer of a Girl Called “Alone”

Once upon a time there was a girl whose sense of self-worth had been shattered. She had experienced loss, betrayal, and rejection, and from her own unwise choices, she felt shame. In a crowd she felt alone, and in private her tears were her closest friends. Still, she had a mustard seed of faith and remembered words she’d heard long ago: “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11). As a deer pants for streams of water, her soul thirsted for the Living God. She rested her head in her Bible and prayed:

Abba Father, my Savior King Jesus, Divine Holy Spirit

I praise and worship You.

I fall face down before You, confessing my sin.

I am so sorry, Lord…so sorry for thinking I knew a better way,

for not trusting You or following Your light.

Thank You for rescuing me from the addictive darkness in which I got lost.

I am humbled that You looked for me and grateful that You found me.

Because You created my heart, mind, and body,

I believe You can knit back together the pieces of mine which are broken and hurting.

Thank You that through Your blood of forgiveness and my sweat and tears of repentance

You can restore my soul, making me whole again.

When I am rejected and ignored, deserted and forgotten—

when my very name screams out with loneliness and fear—

Your Word reminds me, “You are precious and honored in my sight,

and because I love you…Do not be afraid, for I am with you” (Isaiah 43:4-5).

Thank You, Jesus; Your mercy and compassion amaze me.

You really are my Hero…my Knight in Shining Armor!

Lord, cleanse me for Your purposes and so my inner beauty shines Your glory.

Wow, what an exquisite crown of jewels—the crown of victory, joy, and life!

Its splendor is blinding! But I am not worthy, my King.

For as Paul wrote, that which I want to do, still I sometimes do not do.

I’m puzzled as You pick up the dazzling crown and smile at me.

With eyes of compassion and a heart filled with grace

You gently place the crown atop my head and say:

“You are beautiful, my daughter, my Warrior Princess.

I have chosen you, I am proud of you, and I love you.

You will no longer be called ‘Alone’ for I am with you always.

Others may hurt you, and your heart may be broken again,

but I promise to never leave you or forsake you.

Your new name shall be ‘Sought After’ for there is nothing I want more

than to look for you and find you and be with you.

You cannot imagine how much I adore you!”

I try to speak but I can’t.

Fortunately, You know these tears of a different kind say “Thank You.”

I attempt a smile but am lost in Your embrace.

I am beautiful, and I am Yours. And I will never be alone again.

I am completely captivated. I have fallen in love,

true love that will never disappoint, never fail.

“I love You too.”
